Oral SedationDr. Jacob is pleased to offer patients the ease and comfort of oral sedation, which allows patients to remain conscious but relaxed during procedures. Oral sedation produces a significant calming effect while allowing the patient to respond to simple commands during the procedure. Sedation is induced with a pill from the Benzodiazepines group of drugs, including Triazolam (Halcion®) for adults and Medazolan (Versed®) for children. The pill is taken one hour before the appointment, and you should arrange to have someone drive you to and from our office. When you arrive for your appointment, you will be awake but feel very drowsy and relaxed. The calming effect is so pronounced that you will likely not remember being anesthetized once you get to the office. As the sedation wears off after the appointment, you will remain relaxed and free of stress.
